Class Scribe - Rachel Safdié

Hello! Today we started with the Do Now. It was about the movies and books that we have already read and/or seen. We had to compare the difference about those two different things, and of course the similarities about them. Here is a video of the Do Now:

After the Do Now, we started to talk and/or think about the theme/subject of the books and movies. Ms. V. asked a question. She wanted us to discuss in groups what are/is the theme(s) and/or subject(s)of a book or a movie. In this case we are talking about the book that we just finished to read. We are going to make a screenplay tomorow about/of the city of Ember, and that scene that we will do will have to have and object/theme, that is very or/and the most important thing or/and object of the book (The City of Ember).

After that discussion there was a gallery walk.  The gallery walk was about finding the right them and/or subject for a book, story, movie, or even a scene, and we are going to make our best in our scenes so than we can make sure that the people know what our theme and/or subject was without telling them. Well, that's it for today!

Agenda

-  Do Now
- Vocab Connections
- Share Out: Symbols + Film
- Brainstorm: Scenes for Film
- Adaption
- Reading Time
- Speed Date

We started with the Do Now like every other day. The Do Now was to write a sentence using each of the vocabulary words listed. The words were Impudence, Abundance, Dispersing, Catastrophe, Fretful, Refugee, Infinitely, Expanse, Relentless, Accomplice. You had to write a sentence using all these words. One of my favorite sentences was, There was a catastrophe when Victor's house set on fire and he died. By Marcos.
Ms. V was telling the class how to do the Vocab Connections
Then the class moved on to the Vocab connections the class sat in a circle outside then class then the word was chosen it was catastrophe.  Then one person moved in and put a word and said why the word connected to catastrophe. Then the cycle kept on going on until no one had any words.

Then the class moved on to Brainstorm: Scenes for Film, the class had to brainstorm about the movie scene they are going to re-create from City of Ember.  The ideas for scenes could be a theme or symbol. Then the class chose the scene that they thought had the theme or symbol. Then they find the page or pages and the chapter. Then they have to talk to their partner. Then Ms. V told us to create a google doc hen you have to put it in the shared folder with her. And their you write your ideas for themes and symbols. Then the class took out their books and started to read.

Humanities Class Scribe 17/04/2015

Agenda:

- Do Now
- Quiz
- Prep. for Lit. Circle
- Lit Circle
- Debrief
- Read Time

As usual, we did our Do Now and our Do Now was to create a document called, 'Vocabulary Story City of Ember 1 - (Your First name Last name).' After creating the document we wrote a story using the words that we learned from quizlet.

After writing our poem, we shared 1 section of our story with the partner sitting next to you. The section of the story at least needed 2 vocabulary words.

Later on, our class took the quiz about the City of Ember Chapter 1 ~ 5. After taking the socrative quiz, we had time to prepare ourselves for the first literature circle of City of Ember using the discussion sheet. As usual we wrote down textual references or evidences and wrote down questions or thoughts for each one of them.

Then we had our first literature circle of City of Ember. A group discussed at the couch, one discussed outside, and 2 groups discussed at a table.

After having the discussion, we wrote 3 things at the back of the discussion sheet. The 3 things that were brought up in the discussion and if it was worth talking about it. It could be a question, prediction, etc. Then we discussed with our partners what the author of the book was trying to make us learn.

The Exit Ticket for today was to write on our blog what theme do you think the City of Ember had. We had to use some Textual Evidence. See You Next Time!!

Our Agenda:
Do now
Image Match
Quiz quiz trade
Revisits ?s
Reading Time
Speed Date

The first thing we did was our Do Now which today was about the dam they are wanting to create in the Xingu River  near Altamira, Brazil. After reading it and answering the questions on the back:

Later on Ms.V asked us to discuss how this could relate to the book we are currently reading, The city of Ember.

After  sharing our opinions and discussing we started practing our words and connected with pictures. There were some pictures in our desks and we had to know which one fits with what word in our vocab.
Here are some photos of our class working very well:

After 5 minutes Ms.V showed us all the pictures and called on people to answer what they and their partner thought that word was.  I would like to share something from what Leilani said , when Ms.V was showing a maze photo everybody was saying labyrinth but Leilani said it could be flustered. She then explained that if somebody is new or doesn't know the daily routine she could get confused and doesn't know what to do.

After this we went to quiz quiz trade! We started with one word and then we have to come to other people and quiz them our word if we get it right we trade.

Then, Ms.Vallillo gaves us time to read The city of Ember.

Homework: No homework for today!

class scribe- march 23 2015

Today we started our do now which talked about different clothes companies such as American Apparel TM and Offshore Apparel TM.  We also talked about why the prices were higher in American Apparel TM than in Offshore Apparel TM and why they cost more in American Apparel TM. After the we passed out this paper which had a chart labeled, "Noticings" and "Wanderings" there were pictures spread around the room that we observed.

Then we wrote about what we noticed and what we wondered. After that we all came back to our desks and talked to your peers about what we had written. Then ms V Told us to think about what was the most important thing we wrote in our papers and what we thought about it. We received a paper that talked about clothes and where it came from. The text said that 40% of all clothes are manufactured in China, 8% in Vietnam, 6% India, 3% in Cambodia, 3% in Pakistan, 6% in Bangladesh, 5% in Indonesia, 5% in Mexico, 3% in El Salvador, and 3% in Honduras.
Some of us even looked back to the pictures that we had seen before to get extra info. Then ms V told us to underline the most important word or phrase in this this text. We debated what was the most important word or phrase. After we finished our conversation we worked on our triangle fire draft 3 and after a couple of minutes class was over. No Homework have a nice day, Matt Ro
