  Big Learning Target:

3.0: I can write a clear and engaging historical fiction narrative that take place during Apartheid
1.0: I can write an accurate historical fiction narrative that demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of the events surrounding Apartheid

  Supporting Learning Target:

3.4: I can show, not tell in my writing by using strong verbs, sensory details and dialogue
3.6: I can create a voice in my writing that is believable and for my character

As always, we started the class by doing the Do Now. For the Do Now we had to write a scene and explain how the scene was going to move your story about Apartheid.

After the Do Now, Ms. V asked to us what a scene and some of us answered with the informations that we know. Then Ms. V talked about the scenes in the book Out of Bounds, a book about Apartheid. She also talks about The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and she says that the author only showed the part when Katniss visited Rue's District 11 because not only Katniss was Rue's ally, people started to put the 3 middle fingers on their lips and people from the Capitol starts to kill them. She said that this scene shows that the author only wrote the only important part.

(Ms. V explaining about the Historical Fiction Narrative Planning Doc.)

After Ms. V explained about the Historical Fiction Narrative Planning Doc., we had some time to write the 5 scenes in our planning doc and to write the 1st draft of our story that's going to be a Summative Assessment. Ms. V helped us a lot with the HFN (Historical Fiction Narrative) planning document on how to do that and that.

After we wrote more information and stuff inour HFN planning doc. we checked with our partners sitting next to us.

  Homework:
- Finish writing your HFN planning document. (HFN is Historical Fiction Narrative planning document)
- Finish the review of a writing and expand it to 1 page and post it on your blog!
